Brief Histoy :Old Florida Rd was laid out in 1833 as an Old county road. County roads were established for public use, to meet a public needs, and under the jurisdiction of county commissioners. However the towns are responsible for their construction and maintenance. A 1876 map shows the road much as it is show on maps today. There is the remains of F.Folletís cellar hole near the power lines. In 1973 the upper end of the road was discontinued for maintenance by a Town vote. County roads were turned over to the towns. The name was changed when the road was discontinued for maintenance by the old county government and another road was called Adams Road.

Hoosac Tunnel

The road starts off at the great bend at Humphrey Anthonyís saw mill. The road was laid out Four rods wide (1 rod = 5 1/2 yards, 1 yard = 3') and a survey was made. The travel path is 16' wide. Harvey Jenks was the Surveyor. The road is 653 Rods long. The road contained sluiceways and 10 bridges . Cradle knolls and hollows were reduced to a plane or inclined plane. Steel culverts were also used along the road. One of the bridges that was built was 20 feet long & raised to a level with a stake on the north bank by filling five & a half feet on the south bank. On Chester Towers land a bridge was built. The course was cut and filled to a plane. In the 70ís a logger bulldozed a culvert that was used to cross the last brook crossing. The road ends up out by an old school house.
