1) Safety is always # 1. It should always be on your mind.

2) Join a club, never go out alone! (Also goes with # 1)

3) Maintain your Jeep to keep it in tip top shape. You don't want it to ěfail on the trailî!

4) Clearance - Ground clearance will help you drive over large obstacles in your path. This is obtained by a lift (typically suspension) and bigger tires. These two things will help protect all the important parts under your Jeep, like oil pans, and will help you from getting hi centered!

5) Momentum - Keeping your Jeep moving forward at all times will help get you across difficult terrain. (You should ALWAYS be in control of your vehicle on dangerous terrain) Traction devices also aid in keeping your jeep moving.

6) Articulation (wheel travel) - Keeping your tires in contact with the ground. This goes with #ís 5 and 7.

7) Traction - You will always need this! Three things can help. 1) Airing down your tires, 2) Mud tires, and 3) Limited slips or Lockers. See #5

8) Protection from rocks - Skid plates on your gas tank, oil pan, and rocker panels protect your sheet metal and your Jeep from rock damage! Check any bolts that protrude downward from your Jeep so that not too much sticks out. This will keep the bolts from shearing off.

9) Granny gears (Low gears) - Whether in your axles (Ex . 3:73ís,4:10ís or lower) your transmission (ex. T-18 6:32 to one first gear) or transfer case (Dana 300 2:60 to one Low range) low gears help you control your ride in your Jeep on the trail. The slower the better. If your speedometer moving, then your driving to fast. You donít want to be on the brake all day long. Low gears help you descend a hill with only minor use of the brakes.

10) Recovery - Always keep your tow strap handy (You do not want to dig for it in an emergency) Also Know where your tow points are.

11) Never go up or down hill at a angle or with wheels turned. Doing so could result in a roll over. See Safety#1 If you are unsure about your approach ask for a spotter to help guide you.

12) Check to see your CB is working and keep it on at all times during a trip. Make sure to tune your CB when you get it to keep your radio transmissions from degrading.

13) Inspect your Jeep after a run and before you head home. Look at your tires. Do you have any thing stuck between the rim and the tire? Wood? Mud? Are you losing air? Is there anything hanging down from your Jeep like a branch? Check your brakes. Make sure they are working fine. Maybe ask to convoy home with a fellow Jeeper. This way you will have someone to help you if you breakdown and a ride if you need one. Remember to keep your CB on for the ride home. Also check your Oil and other fluids before you hit the open road. Have a safe trip home See you next time.
